Choosing a Wedding Photographer: Part Two

A wedding photographer is chosen to capture the Wedding Moments of a most special day!

Consulting with brides in the last month left me speechless. I have realised that a huge persentage of my wedding photographer colleagues became so important that they dictate the whole wedding and reception. A traditional wedding has certain moments that must be captured. The master of ceremonies, together with the wedding couple and the caterers decide on the exact times thereof. The wedding photographer does not have the privilege to dictate those times. The problem is that very few of them stay later than 20:00. If a photographer is chosen to capture the wedding. Isn't he suppose to take pictures of the whole wedding? Some photographers charge an additional R1000 per hour to stay later than 20:00. I think it is ridiculous!

The point that I would like to make with this article is: When choosing a wedding photographer, make sure that he/she is there to capture the complete wedding. Find out exactly what is the latest time the photographer would stay. I never leave before 23:00! I enjoy the evening with the wedding couple and guests and it gives me the opportunity to take some interesting wedding pictures!

I would love to do your wedding!

Wedding Moments: Choosing a Wedding Photographer

Wedding Moments: Choosing a Wedding Photographer: "Choosing a Wedding Photographer must be one of the most difficult tasks in planning a wedding. Every Wedding Photographer has his own unique..."

Choosing a Wedding Photographer

Choosing a Wedding Photographer must be one of the most difficult tasks in planning a wedding. Every Wedding Photographer has his own unique style. Each Wedding Photographer offers different Wedding Photography Packages. If you are a "bride to be" staying in Pretoria or Johannesburg you have the advantage of staying in close proximity to the finest Wedding Photographers in Gauteng. If you are not staying in Gauteng, find out if the wedding photographer will travel and how much is added to his wedding package.

With all this said; what criteria do you use to make your final selection? Here are my points in order of priority:

  1. Price: This must be the most important point in choosing a wedding photographer. As they say: "Money talks" If the budget doesn't allow an expensive photographer, cut on the guestlist and flowers. Remember, after a week all the flowers will be dead. Your photo memories are forever. The bottom line here is; you pay for what you get.
  2. Professionalism: A good way of finding out how professional your photographer is; ask for references. Whether the bride was happy or unhappy, she will tell you exactly what you can expect from your photographer. Remember to ask if she waited for her photo's or wedding book for more than the time-frame that was discussed between herself and the photographer.
  3. Style: Does this photographer has an art-or-photo journalism style. Look at he angles of the pictures. Do you like the use of props like an old suitcase with "Just Married" written on the side or do you prefer highly edited photo's in "Black and White " or "Sepia"?
  4. Personality: We all like nice, relaxed people. If you meet a photographer that is so "professional" that he stresses you out, rather choose somebody that helps you relax and makes you feel confident. A camery doesn't lie. The pictures will show your emotion.
  5. Website: A photographer's website is the window to his soul. There you will get all the relevant information that you need. Is he a fresh college graduate or is in business for ten year's and longer and has proved himself. It is your decision; young and energetic or older, calm and confident. His website will also show you the quality of the final product. That is what you will pay for; the wedding pictures.
This is purely my point of view of the criteria to use in choosing a Wedding Photographer and Wedding Packages.

Cape Town Harley Davidson Weekend

As a wedding photographer I travel all over South Africa. Sometimes for wedding photography and sometimes I get commissioned to do other photography. This weekend was the latter. I was part of a group of Harley Davidson owners to tour the Western Cape. What a WOW experience!! To experience the beauty of Cape Town and surrounding areas is a privilege, but to experience it on the back of a 103 cubic inch monster is awesome. From the sunset-picnic on Chapman's Peak and a visit to picturesque Franschhoek and Centre-Ville Guesthouse to the windy Agulhas and its well known lighthouse. Everything was outstanding! Taking pictures for the Harley Davidson Tyger Valley didn't feel like work but felt like a well deserved rest. Thank you Leon and Tobie and all my new friends for a most enjoyable weekend!

I am really looking forward to my next Western Cape wedding. I have seen so many wedding photography opportunities this weekend. Contact me on 083 233 5675 for wedding photography packages. I would love to do your Wedding pictures!
