With all this said; what criteria do you use to make your final selection? Here are my points in order of priority:
- Price: This must be the most important point in choosing a wedding photographer. As they say: "Money talks" If the budget doesn't allow an expensive photographer, cut on the guestlist and flowers. Remember, after a week all the flowers will be dead. Your photo memories are forever. The bottom line here is; you pay for what you get.
- Professionalism: A good way of finding out how professional your photographer is; ask for references. Whether the bride was happy or unhappy, she will tell you exactly what you can expect from your photographer. Remember to ask if she waited for her photo's or wedding book for more than the time-frame that was discussed between herself and the photographer.
- Style: Does this photographer has an art-or-photo journalism style. Look at he angles of the pictures. Do you like the use of props like an old suitcase with "Just Married" written on the side or do you prefer highly edited photo's in "Black and White " or "Sepia"?
- Personality: We all like nice, relaxed people. If you meet a photographer that is so "professional" that he stresses you out, rather choose somebody that helps you relax and makes you feel confident. A camery doesn't lie. The pictures will show your emotion.
- Website: A photographer's website is the window to his soul. There you will get all the relevant information that you need. Is he a fresh college graduate or is in business for ten year's and longer and has proved himself. It is your decision; young and energetic or older, calm and confident. His website will also show you the quality of the final product. That is what you will pay for; the wedding pictures.
